Stanisław Krajewski, Professor für Philosophie an der Universität Warschau, ist zu Gast an der Akademie für europäischen Menschenrechtsschutz und wird sein im vorigen Jahr erschienenes Buch Small Numbers, Big Presence: Jews in Poland after World War II vorstellen.
Vor dem Hintergrund der großen Bedeutung des polnischen Judentums für jüdische religiöse Traditionen einerseits, und dessen fast vollständiger Vernichtung in der Shoah andererseits, zeichnet Stanisław Krajewski, geprägt durch seine persönlichen Erfahrungen, die Entwicklung jüdischen Lebens in Polen von 1945 bis heute nach. In seinem Vortrag wird er einen Überblick über die Zeit seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg geben und insbesondere auf Fragen der Erinnerung eingehen. Das anschließende Gespräch moderiert Angelika Nußberger, Direktorin der Akademie für europäischen Menschenrechtsschutz an der Universität zu Köln.
Die Buchvorstellung findet am 10. März 2025 um 18 Uhr im Lesesaal der Akademie für europäischen Menschenrechtsschutz (Kerpener Str. 30, 50937 Köln) auf Englisch statt.
Die Veranstaltung ist eine Kooperation zwischen der Zweigstelle Köln-Bonn der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde (DGO) und dem Lew Kopelew Forum. Sie wird im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts Memocracy – The Challenge of Populist Memory Politics for Europe: Towards Effective Responses to Militant Legislation on the Past gefördert.

Stanisław Krajewski, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw, will be our guest and will present his book Small Numbers, Big Presence: Jews in Poland after World War II, which was published by Peter Lang last year. Against the backdrop of the great importance of Polish Jewry for Jewish religious traditions on the one hand and its almost complete annihilation in the Shoah on the other, Stanisław Krajewski, from a personal perspective, traces the development of Jewish life in Poland from 1945 to the present day. In his lecture, he will give an overview of the period since the Second World War and, particularly, address questions of memory. The subsequent discussion will be moderated by Angelika Nußberger, director of the Academy for European Human Rights Protection at the University of Cologne.
The book talk will be held in English and will take place on 10 March 2025 at 6 pm in the reading room of the Academy for European Human Rights Protection (Kerpener Str. 30, 50937 Cologne).
The event is a cooperation between the Cologne-Bonn branch of the German Association for East European Studies (DGO) and Lew Kopelew Forum. It is funded by the research project Memocracy - The Challenge of Populist Memory Politics for Europe: Towards Effective Responses to Militant Legislation on the Past.
